Nib and Loupe · Offline

Offline licensing:  Offline licences you can give to your own clients.

In short If you run Unforged offline, you can give the businesses you work with licences of their own, for as long as each piece of work needs, from your workspace or through the API. Each one carries your client’s name and ends on the date you choose.

How it works for you

Your agreement with us sets your own licence, usually for the length of your contract, along with how many client licences you can have running at once and how long each can last.

When a client needs Nib or Loupe for a project, open Licensing, enter their name, pick the dates and download the file. They set it up on their own machine and it runs without ever going online.

What your client sees

on your client's machine
$ unforged-nib licence
short-lived licence lic_01JC4T…
for Business X
issued to Northbank Risk
issued by Unforged
valid until 30 Nov 2026

Every result their copy produces names them and you, so there’s never any doubt about whose licence a check was run under. They can see their end date at any time, and when it’s close they’re told to come back to you rather than to us.

Before you hand one over

An offline licence can’t be switched off once it’s on a computer that never connects. You can revoke it, and that stops its online register checks straight away, but a copy that stays offline keeps working until its end date. So we’d suggest giving each client the shortest licence that covers their work, and issuing a new one if they need more time.

Questions

Something not covered here? Ask me directly.

  • Can I take a licence back?

You can revoke it at any time, which stops its online register checks. A copy that stays offline keeps working until its end date, because nothing can reach it.

  • How many can I give, and for how long?

That’s part of your agreement with us: how many can run at once and the longest each can last. A licence counts towards your limit until its end date, even if you revoke it.

  • Can a client’s licence include more than mine?

No. It can only include what your plan allows you to pass on, and it can’t run past the end of your own licence.

  • Can we do it from our own systems?

Yes. Everything in Licensing is also in the API, so you can give and revoke licences from your own tools. Developer docs →
