# Unforged Assay, AML checks: Your anti-money laundering checks for every new customer, run the way your MLRO set them up.

> Assay runs your AML process for each new customer. It checks who they are and where their money came from, screens them for sanctions and PEPs, scores the risk under your own policy and asks for more when the policy says so, then keeps screening them once they're on board. Your MLRO decides what each kind of customer goes through, and someone on your team signs off every one. It's for regulated businesses, so we set it up with you once we've confirmed who you are.

## Tomasz's AML checks, from his passport to his monthly re-screen

1. **Customer due diligence**: He photographs his passport, records a short selfie video and confirms his address, all on his phone.
2. **Sanctions and PEP screening**: We check him against the sanctions and PEP lists before anyone at Northgate opens his file.
3. **Risk assessment**: Your policy scores him. His GBP 40,000 deposit is over the amount where your MLRO wants to know where the money came from.
4. **Enhanced due diligence**: He shares his bank statements, and we check them for edits before anyone relies on them.
5. **Sign-off**: Someone your MLRO has named reviews it all and signs it off. Their name, the date and the policy version stay with the record.
6. **Ongoing monitoring**: We screen him again every month and tell you if anything changes.

## Your MLRO sets the checks, and Assay follows them for every customer.

Choose the checks for each kind of customer, the amounts and countries that call for more, and who has to sign off. When the policy changes, the next customer gets the new one, and every past check keeps the version it ran under.

- Passport or driving licence, matched to a live selfie: everyone
- Address confirmed: everyone
- Sanctions and PEP screening, checked again every month: everyone
- Source of funds, with bank statements checked for changes: over GBP 25,000
- Business owners and directors: off
- Second sign-off by the MLRO: PEP or high-risk country

## What your team sees

Each step arrives as Tomasz finishes it, with anything that needs a second look marked and the reason next to it. Whoever signs it off, their name and the date stay with the record.

## Run it on its own, or from a matter in Desk.

- **On its own, for banks, building societies and lenders**: Send a check from Assay itself, see every customer's checks in one list, and export the record for your auditors.
- **In Desk, for law firms and conveyancers**: Joanna sends the check from Helen's matter, and it lands on the matter's identity and AML card.

## Getting started

1. **Tell us about your business**: Your regulator and reference number, who your MLRO is, and roughly how many customers you check in a month.
2. **We confirm you're regulated**: We check with your regulator and Companies House, then agree a price with you.
3. **Your MLRO sets the policy**: We go through it with them, and your team sends its first checks the same day.

## What people ask us

### Does Assay cover our whole AML process?

It covers the checks on each customer: due diligence, screening, your risk assessment, enhanced due diligence when it's needed, sign-off and ongoing monitoring. Your firm-wide risk assessment, training and reporting to the authorities stay with your MLRO.

### Who can use Assay?

Businesses that have to check their customers under money laundering rules: banks, building societies, lenders, law firms, conveyancers and accountants. We confirm you're regulated before we switch it on.

### Can we change the checks later?

Yes. Your MLRO can change the policy whenever the firm's risk assessment changes. New checks follow the new version, and every past check still shows the one it ran under.

### Do our customers need an app?

No. They get a link by email or text and do everything in their phone's browser.

### We already use Desk. Is it the same thing?

It's the same Assay. In Desk you send a check from a client or a matter, and the result sits on that client's record. On its own, you send and follow checks from Assay.

### How much does it cost?

It depends on the checks your policy asks for and how many customers you check, so we agree a price with you when we set it up.
